ARMA (stylized as ARMA) is a series of first-person tactical military simulation shooters initially developed for Microsoft Windows. Known for its high level of realism and immersive gameplay, the series balances large-scale military operations spanning vast terrains with intense close-quarters combat. The inaugural title was launched in 2006, with subsequent installments continuing through 2013. Over time, the franchise has expanded to include versions available on Microsoft Windows, Linux, Android, and iOS platforms.
The first entry, *ARMA: Armed Assault*—also called *ARMA: Combat Operations* in the United States—debuted for Windows in November 2006 in the Czech Republic and Germany, followed by releases across Europe in February 2007 and in the U.S. in May 2007. It utilized the Real Virtuality 2 engine.
*ARMA 3*, the latest iteration, is a standalone title released for Windows on September 12, 2013, powered by the upgraded Real Virtuality 4 engine. It initially entered early access via Steam on March 5, 2013, allowing players to experience the game before its official launch. Between late 2015 and early 2016, *ARMA 3* was also released for Linux and Mac, initially with an earlier version, with plans to synchronize these versions with the main Windows release later on.
